Review Rubric

These are the four criteria that will make up your review:

1. First Impression (/10)

The first impression is really an important reason for visitors to either continue to view your site or leave the site entirely. This section is where I critique the splash page (if you have one) and take my first peek of your layout and critique that section as well.

2. Visual Appeal (/30)

  • Layout (/15) - The layout is really one of the most important sections of a website. If your layout is really just unattractive, most, if not all people will immediately leave your website. This section is where I try and find anything wrong with your layout, if it is the fonts used, the brushes and textures used, or really anything that is just out of place.

  • Organization (/10) - Organization is another important part of a website's layout. It really shows how well you have made your site and can make your site aesthetically appealing. If anything really looks cluttered and out of place, points will be docked for your site.

  • Anything Else (/5) - This is really just a section where I nitpick your site to see anything that looks unappealing to my eye or if something is really difficult to view. If all of the aspects of the layout flow well, no points will be removed. (:

3. Content (/35)

  • Quality (/20) - This section is really one of the most important parts, really. Since most sites revolve around their content, it should really be descriptive and well-written. The content that you have should also have very few to no spelling or vocabulary errors. If your website offers graphics and layouts, some of those layouts will be viewed and critiqued as well.

  • Originality (/10) - Originality is really an important aspect of a website's content as well. Though writing original content may seem really difficult to do, even the newest of sites can make original content. This will likely include graphical content, as long as they are not stolen from another website, even with credit.

  • Quantity (/5) - Though not as important as the latter two sections of the content division of the review, you should have a pretty extensive amount of content because if you have only one page of great content, then I bet that most people will leave your website.

4. Coding (/20)

  • Validation (/15) - Following the standards of the W3C is probably one of the best things you can do for your site. Now I know that coding cannot be always perfect, so the only things that I will dock points from are if the coding causes any errors to the appearance of your site or any incorrect CSS.

  • Organization (/5) - Though this is not very significant (which is why it only counts for 5 points of your review), it would be nice that your coding is not messy and that everything is in place.

5. Final Impression and Bonuses (/5+)

Simply put, it is where I sum up your review, praise you for the positive things on your site, and give you some suggestions on how to improve your site overall. In addition, if I feel that you deserve bonus points for things I find great on your site (interactivity, originality, etc.), I will give you bonus points for it (up to 10 points).

Since the total score of your review is out of 100 points, I would rate your site like a teacher would:
Excellent - 85 to 100 points
Great - 70 to 84 points
Good - 60 to 69 points
Fair - 50 to 59 points
Poor - 0 to 49 points
