Windows 7
What is Windows 7? Windows 7 is a new and upcoming operating system line created by Windows (obviously). Microsoft is reported that they will release it during the holiday season of 2009. There are many new features that distinguishes Windows 7 from its predecessors, but you'd probably want to know specifically what makes it special from the rest of the pack, right? Here is a basic guide about Windows 7 if you want to know more about it.
Though many people may consider Windows 7 not that much different from Windows Vista, there are many new features that distinguishes it from past Windows operating systems.
Graphical User Interface/Aesthetics
7 still keeps the attractive GUI from Windows Vista, Aero. There are some differences, however, that makes Windows 7 much more appealing. For one, the task bar has been reworked, though it looks somewhat similar to Vista's. In addition, there are new themes that are introduced to change how your desktop looks like. An interesting thing about these new themes is that there are different themes based on where you installed Windows 7, which I find pretty awesome.
Multimedia/Security
7 still keeps many aspects of multimedia and security from Windows Vista. However, they have been updated and reworked. Windows Security Center has been changed to Windows Action Center, which provides information on both the security and maintenance of your computer. Windows Media Center has kept the look and feel of Vista's Media Center, but there have been inteface shortcuts that have been added. Lastly, there will be more formats that will be supported by Windows 7.
So you would probably want to use it now after knowing all of this, correct? Until July 2009, you can install the release candidate (the operating system that they plan on releasing) for free. However, it will expire on August 2010 and on March 2010, your computer will begin to shut down every two hours and Windows will warn you two weeks before the latter occurs. The link to download it and to find information on how to install it can be found here. You can also pre-order Windows 7 from Microsoft directly or from participating retailers such as Best Buy, NewEgg, and Amazon!
